Seussical Kids..
VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Due to new members joining our cast, we have changed the date of our Musical to Thursday, May 10th. There will be a dress rehearsal at 1pm and a performance at 6pm.
If you could check your closets for any striped shirts, sweatpants or any colorful shirts that our cast may use, it would be appreciated.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Mr. Goulet at bgoulet@frrsd.org or 413/269-4466.
The musical tells a story about Horton, who discovers a speck of dust containing people called the Whos, which includes one of the who children Jojo who gets in trouble for thinking too many thinks. Horton has a few challenges. Not only does he have to protect the Whos from a world of negative people and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.
Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.

Art Corner…
Art in the months of May and June include independent projects for 5th and 6th graders as well as scene and set design for the Seussical Kids Musical, which all grades will help create. We will also be exploring more print-making using foam board plates, more action drawings, and more painting in all the grades.
2nd graders received the award for best behaved class for this trimester and enjoyed face-painting and donuts last month. Two classes tied for 2nd place, 4th and 5th, and they will enjoy a free-draw day with some special treats.
Posters for the School-wide “Walk Up and Do Something Nice for Someone” project, sponsored by Student Council, were created in all the classes and will be hung through the remaining school year to encourage all students to make sure they are acting to include everyone and help those who need a friendly word of encouragement.
The 4th grade will go on an Art field trip to The Mount in early June, an annual event made possible by the Otis Cultural Council and local artist, Ann Jon. Go Outside and Make Art!!

Student Council News…
The Fun Night/Lock-In Event on April 6th was very successful with students reporting they had a fun time. The activities included building with legos, designing name signs, playing board games, origami, face painting, dancing, karaoke, sport games in the gym, movies with popcorn, and lots of snack foods, including pizza, veggies, lemonade, and chocolate chip cookies.
The younger children who could not stay for the Lock-In are looking forward to the year they can sleep over in the gym! Student Council collected over $200 in fees, some of which was used to pay for food and activities. The chaperones volunteered a good deal of food items, as well as their time to make this event such a success. The balance of money collected will be used to fund student council as well as a generous donation to one of our local organizations.
Student Council would like to extend a very, very BIG THANK YOU to all of the parents and staff who helped make this event happen! We could not have done it without your help!
