November 2017

We are looking forward to seeing you on Thursday, November 9th, for our parent-teacher conferences.

Parent-teacher conferences present an excellent opportunity to find out how your child is adjusting to the new school year and to get to know their teachers.  Here are some general hints on how to have a successful conference:

  1. Ask your child if there is anything that he/she would like you to discuss with the teacher. (Ask about subjects he/she likes and those that he/she does not.  Also ask your child if there is a particular subject or time of day that he/she finds difficult.)
  2. Jot down everything that you want to talk about at the conference. Try to prioritize your list just in case there is not enough time to cover all the topics.
  3. Arrive promptly or a few minutes early.
  4. Avoid lengthy discussions of topics that are not related to the purpose of the conference. As friendly as this is, it takes time away from the conference topics.
  5. Be open-minded to suggestions from the teacher. Even if you don’t agree with the teacher’s suggestions initially, sometimes after you have had some time to think about what was said, you might understand the teacher’s point of view better.
  6. Take notes about what has been discussed to share with your child.

I would also add that if you don’t feel like you’ve finished discussing everything that you wanted to talk about, please schedule another conference with your child’s teacher.  We realize that the allotted time for these conferences is sometimes not sufficient.

We look forward to seeing you at the parent-teacher conference.  By working together we can provide the best educational program for your child.
