Report Cards:

Report cards will be the same as last year.  We will have trimester grading periods in which overall grades will be given as a percent and performance indicators will be given based on a scale of 1 to 4.  A score of 70% is the cutoff for passing.  Receiving a score of 4 as a performance indicator means that your child is exceeding the grade level standards in that skill area, a 3 means your child is meeting the grade level standards in that skill area, a 2 means your child is approaching or progressing toward the grade level standards in that skill area, and a score of 1 means your child is making limited progress toward the grade level standards in that skill area.  All graded assignments will be scored with this grading system.

Classroom Rules:

  1. Respect everyone and everything.
  2. Follow directions the first time they are given.
  3. Raise your hand to speak.
  4. Stay seated, unless told otherwise.
  5. Do your best!

Consequences:

  1. Warning
  2. Loss of privilege
  3. Phone call home
  4. Sent to principal’s office

Curriculum:

Here is a list of the topics we will be learning about over the next month.  Science and social studies will be alternated throughout the school year starting with science being taught for a few weeks and then switching to social studies and so on.

ELA: setting, characters, compare and contrast, and fact and opinion

Writing: focus and ideas

 Math: place value, and algebra

Science: the scientific method

Social Studies: geography and Africa

Please help make sure your son/daughter is prepared for school each morning and that he/she has completed homework assignments when assigned.  Homework assignments will always be written in your son/daughter’s agenda book.  I like to use the agenda as a form of communication, so please check for any notes written from me as well.  Please look at the agenda each night and sign.  Again, please feel free to contact me throughout the school year via e-mail or school telephone.  I look forward to working with you and having a great year with your son/daughter this school year!

Sincerely,

Christine McArthur
